Kids Long Distance Release Flyathlon

Event Description: The 2021 kids Long Distance Release Flyathlon is a virtual Running Rivers event and is the juvenile complement to the adult's Long Distance Release Flyathlon. In this event, kids will run, fish, explore, think and enjoy the outdoors. Parents are allowed to help and encouraged to participate (and ideally concomitantly participate in the adult LDR Flyathlon). Here is the breakdown of the event and an activity sheet to print.

Complete as many of the activities as possible, and at the end of the summer, add up your points and we will send you some cool prizes.
1) Catch a native fish. Take a picture.

Points: 2 points per inch of fish, 5 bonus points for rare fish (deemed so by the Running Rivers board)
2) Make a monofilament ball. Clean up all the monofilament (fishing line) you find around waterways over the summer and make it into a giant ball.
Submission: photo of your monofilament ball with ruler for size
Points: 3 points per inch of the diameter of your monofilament ball.
3) Belly flop your favorite lake. Bonus points if you can get a parent and / or your dog to do it with you.
Submission: photos are preferred but at least tell us the following:

Points: 20 points per flop, 25 bonus point for a parent flop, 10 more points if you get you dog to come too.
4) Write a poem about water and / or fish.
Submission: send us a copy of your poem (and bonus art)
Points: 10 points for a poem, 5 bonus points if you draw, paint, sketch, color a picture to accompany it.
5) Sleep out under the stars.
Submission: tell us what you saw (Milky Way, shooting star, the moon, constellations…): ___________
Points: 10 points for a night out
6) Run, hike, bike, walk or skip a trail. Tell us how far you go.
Submission: Picture of you on the trail (funny faces appreciated).
Points: 10 points per mile, 20 bonus points if you catch a fish somewhere along the way.
7) Wade in a creek or stream. Bonus if you go all the way under water.
Submission: Picture of your feet (and possibly body) under the water.
Points: 5 points for wading, 20 bonus points if you go all the way under.
8) Clean up a body of water. Take a picture of your trash.
Submission: Picture of the trash you clean up. Be sure to tell us the strangest or grossest thing you found.
Points: 10 points per bag of trash
9) Climb a mountain or hill.
Submission: Picture of you on top
Points: one point per 100 feet of elevation gain
10) Drink craft root beer.
Submission: tell us who made your root beer and how it was
Points: 2 points for a root beer, 2 bonus points if you add a scoop of vanilla ice cream
11) Choose your own adventure. Have a crazy idea? Make it happen!
Submission: send us a video describing or showing parts of your adventure!
Points: The Running Rivers board will determine points based on the uniqueness, adventure, effort, number of giggles and awesomeness of your adventure!
