Course Name: South Colony
Distance: 5.44 miles
Vertical Gain: 1243 feet
Fishable Waterbody: South Colony Creek
Course Description: This course runs up County Road 120 (south of Westcliffe, CO) from the lower parking lot to the bridge just past the upper parking lot. The upper parking lot is also the trailhead that starts the journey to several of Colorado's most iconic fourteeners (Crestone Peak, Crestone Needle, Humboldt Peak, Kit Carson Peak). On this steepish out and back run, you are likely to see high clearance vehicles with drivers looking at you like you are out of your mind. South Colony Creek is a smallish high gradient creek draining the Sangre de Cristo mountains. It is loaded with eager brook trout and cutthroat trout. Importantly, this road goes through about a 1/2 mile of private land, so please stay on the road the entire way up so as to not get shot.
