Course Name: Piedra River
Distance: 6.0 miles
Fishable Waterbody: Piedra River
Course Description: In the Piedra canyon the Piedra River trail winds along the river. Piedra means stone or rock. As you run the trail you can certainly understand why it carries this name. The sandstone canyon is incredibly beautiful. After passing through the sandstone canyon you make your way south to the Williams confluence where I caught a fish (on a CDC Pheasant tail) on my first cast and it promptly popped off! Second cast and another fish, this one stayed on for a nice picture. Right before the 3 mile mark you reach the northern part of the Stock Drive Trail, I continued on until I got to the 3 mile mark where I turned around to head back to the trail head. This trail is deceiving. It appears as though it would be an easy run, however, there is a good bit of ascent (800 ft) and the rocks make it quite technical except for in the meadows where the heat will bake you like a lobster. Ska's Mexican Lager was a good finish to the morning.
